Patient Wall Display
Introduction
When looking to expand on the technology we were developing with the whiteboard, the product development team also an opportunity for outside the patient rooms. For this product I needed to design an interface that could be used by both staff and visitors, while simultaneously protecting the privacy of patients inside the room. Typically, patient rooms only display the room number but no other information than that. By digitizing this, it also opened an opportunity to display information for visitors that may not even be visiting that room; a map.
Requirements and Data Gathering
The digital wall display had certain things that always needed displayed such as the room number, but also information about the patient to the staff members prior to walking in, such as allergy information, fall risk, isolation protocol, dietary restrictions and DNR status. I lead the team to build on the modular design that we implemented in the whiteboards to streamline the development of this product and also allow for the same customization that the hospitals required.
Implementation
In order to protect the patient information and remain HIPPA compliant, the main display is the "Low Information Screen" which only provides the user with the room number/location, patient name however it’s displayed in the system, care team and a map with their current location. In order to view the other information about the patient, the display would need to be unlocked. Once the screen is unlocked, the staff member has access to the patient information. Once a module is selected, it opens a full screen view of exactly what they need to see, allowing them to quickly move to what they were doing.
